2/15 Live NFL Offseason News and Rumors
UPDATE 10:12 PM - New York Giants have re-signed WR Michael Jennings, FB Robert Douglas, and DE Dave Tollefson
Yes, these are mostly practice squad players but it’s news about my team, so deal with it. The Giants learned this year you can never have enough players, because of all the injuries that occurred. Jennings actually was the #3 receiver before he went down in the Dallas game. Douglas looked serviceable and Tollefson showed flashes of being solid. These moves are fine by me.
6:51 PM - Tennessee Titans are prepared to use the franchise tag on DT Albert Haynesworth
We saw this coming. He is one of the most dominant tackles in the game and the Titans had to make this move.
5:29 PM - Washington Redskins hire Sherman Smith as their new offensive coordinator
The 12 year RB coach for the Tennessee Titans is now the new OC for Jim Zorn. An interesting move by Washington (but then again, what Dan Snyder move makes legitimate sense?). We’ll see if it pays off.
3:48 PM - Atlanta Falcons release QB Byron Leftwich, TE Alge Crumpler, DT Rod Coleman, and T Wayne Gandy
Leftwich was a wise pickup at the time but his clock has struck midnight as the Atlanta front office has begun to clean house. Crumpler was a great target for then quarterback Michael Vick but knee problems and a 5.1 million cap figure have spelled the end for him. Injuries have also spelled the end for Rod Coleman. The Pro Bowl D-Lineman may make a nice fit somewhere else. Gandy is a good depth guy that someone will add.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers re-sign RB Michael Bennett
Has really never lived up to expectations since he came up with Minnesota. In limited action, he average 4.5 yards a carry this season. A nice insurance policy to have for Earnest Graham.
- Kansas City Chiefs release CB Ty Law
33 years old and a 9.05 million cap number will normally do this to a man. Law has slowed down considerably since his New England days. He will either have to sign somewhere else for considerably less money or retire.
RUMORS
- NEW 11:22 PM Cowboys very interested in Zach Thomas, as are Patriots, Chargers, Colts, and Saints
- Atlanta Falcons may release Lawyer Milloy
- Dallas Clark may possibly receive a new long term deal from the Colts
- Steve McNair is expecting to be the starter come next year for the Ravens
